Well, doesn't time fly.
It seems like only yesterday I signed up with Oeck for a beta trial and now 6 months later we're getting close to the end of the year.
With that said, I thought I'd give a brief review of my experience with Oeck so far.
I'll preface this with a little about myself. I'm a simple man. I like things that Just Work™.
Having things that Just Work™ has a dollar value to me.
Oeck Just Works™. I've used it on laptops, Desktops, Android mobiles and routers and it , you know, Just Works™. The streaming is good, the speeds are constantly very good, the service as a whole is just simply rock solid.
The fact that Oeck can do such a good job being such a small company really shows just how "ugh" the bigger VPN providers are. The exception to that being VPN.AC. They are almost as good as Oeck.
I'mpretty really impressed with the mobile app. It stays connected day in day out. I really like that.
It seems to handle transitioning between WAN and LAN networks so much better than any of the others I have used.
You guys really got it right with that app.
I haven't tried it on any Linux platforms so cant really comment about that side of things.
I mainly use OpenVPN client on the Windows devices and again, they Just Work™.
I don't use the Oeck windows app as it used to have that bug with not clearing the default gateway when not exited properly, and I don't know if it's been fixed or not.
And that leads me to the only 2 things I'd like to see improvement on.
The 1st is an improvement on update release info. I've never seen any updates relating to new releases of a Windows app, or if the aforementioned bug has been remedied. Personally, I'm happy to get an email advising of such. Others may prefer a push notification via the app.
2nd is the icon in the toolbar is still nigh on invisible when added as a shortcut to the taskbar. I know, that's a 1st world problem right there but it catches my eye all the time as it looks like there is nothing there but there is a space for it.
Overall, my Oeck experience has been delightfully smooth.
It's nice to be able to sit down , fire up the PC and have at least one piece of it simply, you know, Just Work™
